Five things, each dated: state contractor license status (checked against the state board), liability insurance (certificate of insurance on file), industry certification (IICRC and similar registries), name match between the licensed entity and the insured entity, and public disciplinary records. If we can't confirm something, the listing says 'unverified' — we never fill gaps with assumptions.
▸Is a listed contractor 'CrawlCred approved'?
No, and we're careful about this. We verify records as of a date; we don't guarantee workmanship, pricing or future conduct. Verification tells you the company is real, licensed where required, and insured — the baseline every quote should clear before you compare prices.
▸Why do some legitimate contractors show 'license: none found'?
Because some states don't require one at typical crawl space prices. North Carolina's threshold is $40,000 and Tennessee's is $25,000 — most encapsulations fall below both. In those states, insurance and certification checks carry the weight. South Carolina ($5,000), Georgia ($2,500) and Virginia ($1,000) are stricter, so a missing license there is a genuine red flag.
